This photo pictures women participating in a chariot race wearing formal hats and sports attire of the time – dark skirts, white baggy shirts, and high knee-socks. The picture shows the athletics of the time and how drastic it has changed from than to now. It also shows the masculinity that women took on in sports to show they can be just as dominant. This contributes to my research in showing a certain portion of the population's motivations of the time, therefore helping to define the culture in its past state.

Heritage Protocol Photograph Collection."Even Volleyball Team." Photo. Florida

           University, Tallahassee, Florida. Circa 1926-1927. Web. 30 March 2014.

This photo pictures a men and women’s volleyball team on a grassy field, sitting and standing one behind the other in athletic wear of the time – men: baggy button ups and shorts, women: skirts and baggy button ups. The picture shows the openness to coed team sports – creating an equality in gender through sports. This relates perfectly to my research in revealing the social changes of the time and answers part of my question about the population defining culture - equal in person, working towards a goal.

Heritage Protocol Photograph Collection."Group of Girls in Athletic Attire."

           March 2014.

This photograph pictures young women in gym attire, almost fully covered in clothing – sweater, shirt, skirt, and high-knee socks. The picture reveals the modesty of the time as opposed to today, covering almost all parts of the body. Showing the social expectations of how women were supposed to dress. This answers part of my question about how the culture of 1921 understood the role of women in sports and imposed that understanding through women's attire.

Heritage Protocol Photograph Collection."Sophomore Soccer Team." Photo.

           Florida State University Digitial Library. fsu: 8273. Heritage Protocol,

           Florida State University, Tallahassee, Florida. Circa 1926-1927. Web. 30

           March 2014.

           <http://purl.flvc.org/fcla/dt/1926569>

This photograph pictures a women’s soccer team in white baggy shorts with thick belts and white button up shirts, with knee high socks, and short haircuts. The picture shows women imitating the image of men in sports, and also identifies the lack of technology in the time – they aren’t wearing shin-guards. This contributes to my research of identifying changes over time, specifically technology in this sense. Also, it presents diversity in the sports that women started to participate in, sports that were initially male dominated.
